MARGARET GRIFFIN'S dream came true: Archie repeated as the Heisman winner in 1975. As a senior Griffin extended his record of consecutive 100-yards-plus games to 31, an NCAA record that still stands today. He concluded his Ohio State career with a school-record 5,589 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. The Buckeyes were 40-5-1 during his four seasons.

After Griffin said goodbye to Columbus, he moved downstate to play for the Bengals, who selected him in the first round of the 1976 NFL draft. He played seven seasons in Cincinnati, rushing for 2,808 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns. He was joined there by his younger brother Raymond, who played cornerback. Raymond and Archie, in fact, were teammates in Super Bowl XVI, the first brothers to play on the same Super Bowl team. Youngest brother Keith also made the pros and played running back for five seasons in Washington, earning a Super Bowl ring in '87. All told, all seven Griffin brothers played college football.
Now 53, Archie is set to begin his 25th year with the Ohio State administration. As an associate director of athletics, he oversaw 17 varsity sports, including football. Since 2004 he has been president and CEO of the school's alumni association. He and the former Bonita Davis have a son, Adam, and Archie has two sons, Anthony and Andre, from a previous marriage. Andre became the fifth Griffin to wear a Buckeyes jersey. He was a walk-on running back who played in 2000.
His father remains the only two-time Heisman winner. Does Griffin ever tire of people reminding him about that feat? "I really don't," he says. "It's a source of pride, and it talks a lot about the teams I played with. I'm someone who truly feels that I was in the right place at the right time."
