BRETT-TIME STORIES
March 12, 2008
FRIENDS AND FOES ALIKE HAVE THEIR FAVORITE BRETT FAVRE MEMORIES. HERE, IN THEIR OWN WORDS, IS WHAT THEY'LL REMEMBER ABOUT NUMBER 4
FAVRE BROUGHT personality to the game and to our league. Above all else, what Brett Favre has always been is a team guy. He always did what was in the best interests of his team, and I think that's what he's demonstrating right now. He was the classic example of the professional football player who was going to lead his team under any and all circumstances, as evidenced by the tremendous record he set in terms of the number of consecutive starts.
—Tom Coughlin, Giants coach
I WAS with Coach Holmgren when Brett started playing. I remember Majkowski, the Majik Man, got injured, Brett went into the game, and it was history after that. He went in and won games during that first year he played. To look at him now, you can't be anything but proud for him in seeing these accomplishments happen to a young man as great as Brett Favre is. He's a great person, and I have nothing but respect for him.
—Ray Rhodes, Texans assistant; Packers assistant from 1992 through '93 and head coach in '99
I TOOK a lot from Brett: working hard, taking care of the body. Every time I would go in [the team facility] in the morning, he would be on the StairMaster or the treadmill. He practiced hard. He studied. But what I took most from Brett was how he would compete in the game. He would go out there and give absolutely all he had and would make some incredible plays.
—Mark Brunell, Redskins quarterback; Packers quarterback from 1993 through '94
GROWING UP, I always admired Brett Favre. It's been great to watch him because he has so much fun playing the game. He's also a wonderful person. He's been great to me and my family and has always been so supportive of me. It was nice to see him and play against him in those two games [in 2007], especially in the NFC Championship Game. It's really an honor and will always mean a lot to me that I played on the same field as he did in his last NFL game.
—Eli Manning, Giants quarterback
