DON'T LIE

Stolen bases the Astros had in 2008. Manager Cecil Cooper vowed that his team would run more, and they swiped 49 more bags than they did in '07. However, they were caught 52 times, or in 31% of their attempts, the fifth-worst efficiency in the NL. Such a low success rate—70% is the industry standard—further slows an offense that already makes plenty of outs at the plate (.323 OBP) without giving away additional ones on the base paths.
