SOME CALL IT THE RED ZONE. OTHERS CALL IT THE GREEN zone (because it's where players make their money). But no matter what you call it, fantasy WRs need to excel in it because it's the quickest way to six points.

We wanted to find those WRs who did the most (and the least) of their work in the red zone. So in coming up with the chart below we took every WR from 2008 who caught at least 50 passes. (That left us with 47, but we threw out the unemployed Marvin Harrison and Matt Jones, leaving 45.) Then we dug up their receptions in the red zone and calculated whose talents were most used in that area. The results showed that four WRs, led by Chad Ochocinco (above), made about one fifth of their catches in the red zone and are the ones to watch when their team gets inside the opponent's 20. The results also showed that you may want to stay away from Braylon Edwards, Bobby Wade and Donnie Avery, especially if you're in a TD-heavy league.

STAT PADDERS

SMART STATS

RECEIVING YARDS, LIKE ALL STATS, CAN BE DECEIVING. A receiver may look like he had a great game in the box score, when in reality his numbers came mostly in garbage time. Of course, fantasy owners only care about the final numbers and not how a receiver got them. There is, however, some advantage in looking at the chart below. It details the top 12 wideouts from 2008 who put up the most receiving yardage after their teams were trailing by more than two TDs. The Lions' Calvin Johnson was the king of stat-padding last year, with 421 yards after his team was down by 15 points or more, while the Cardinals, including Steve Breaston (above), won the team award in garbage yardage. Here's the takeaway: If you think the team for any player below will be significantly better this season, that team will likely run the ball more in the fourth quarter, making it less likely these receivers will be able to pad their stats.
