NEXT WEEK'S MAIN EVENT
The Past as Prologue
Who among the players in next week's field have track records at Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club over the last five years that suggest a victory? No surprise, really, but Tiger Woods is tops. In three appearances he has a win, two other top 10s and a 66.58 scoring average. Close behind is Retief Goosen, who also has a win and two other top 10s, although he has averaged a flat 68 strokes, and Scott Verplank, who has three top 10s in three appearances. Geoff Ogilvy, with a best finish of 17th, and Kenny Perry (a 20th) appear to be long shots. And the wild card? That would be Y.E. Yang, who has won twice this season but has never played the Tour Championship.
Worst to First
For the 30th-ranked player in the Tour Championship to take the FedEx Cup, he must win and the top six players must falter. Here's how far each of those front-running half dozen would have to fall.
FOR THE TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
"I always play with a number 3 ball because finishing a hole in three strokes is always good."
