Toby's Run
Gene Menez
December 07, 2009
Toby Gerhart left Stanford Stadium last Saturday night with fans chanting, "HEIS-man! HEIS-man!" The 235-pound Cardinal back made a strong closing statement, plowing ahead for 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns while also throwing an option pass for an 18-yard TD in a 45--38 victory over Notre Dame. Gerhart (below), a senior, leads the country with 1,736 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns, but he trails his main competition for the trophy— Texas's Colt McCoy, Alabama's Mark Ingram and Florida's Tim Tebow—in name recognition. Now Gerhart can only watch as those three still have one more opportunity to impress voters in the Big 12 and SEC championship games this Saturday night.
