Justin Sloan of National Trail High in New Paris, Ohio, grimaces in pain as his 140-pound opponent, Cody Fields of Springfield (Ohio) High, puts a tooth hold on his forearm during the Shawnee Invitational meet in Springfield on Jan. 10. No infraction was called by officials (though biting is illegal in wrestling), and Fields won the match. His coach later declined to admit there had been a bite, which could have resulted in Fields's disqualification.
"AFTER GREAT DEBATE IN MY NEWSPAPER ABOUT WHETHER THIS PHOTO WAS 'CONTROVERSIAL,' IT APPEARED INSIDE, IN BLACK AND WHITE. WHILE I HAVE MULTIPLE FRAMES OF THIS MOMENT, ONLY ONE SHOWS THE REACTION OF THE WRESTLER BEING BITTEN. I DIDN'T SEE IT WHEN I SHOT IT, AND I WILL CHALK IT UP TO LUCK."
