Although most people remember him as an MVP shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Groat will always be a basketball player in Durham. He became Duke's first national player of the year, in 1952.
In 1963 he earned the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player honor, one of 12 players to do so despite their teams not winning the tournament. Heyman averaged 25.1 points a game at Duke and became the first Blue Devil to go No. 1 in the NBA draft.
The model floor general, Hurley set an NCAA record with 1,076 assists at Duke while leading the team to back-to-back titles in 1991 and '92.
Dubbed the Landlord, the 6' 9" forward is the only Blue Devil to collect 100 blocks in a season, and he did so three times, becoming the school's most dominant presence in the paint.
