Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder singled with what was left of his shattered bat last Thursday, driving in two runs in the fifth inning of Milwaukee's 20--0 drubbing of the Pirates. Fielder went 2 for 4 with three RBIs in the major league's fifth most lopsided shutout since 1900.
Lakers forward Luke Walton bit too hard on a pump fake by Thunder guard Eric Maynor last Saturday during Game 4 of their first-round Western Conference matchup in Oklahoma City. The eighth-seeded Thunder won 110--89 to tie the series (page 32).
Head And Tail
Ashdale Cruise Master stumbled on the Hollow jump and toppled onto Oliver Townend of Ellesmere, England, last Saturday during the cross-country equestrian test at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event in Lexington. The horse was uninjured, but the 27-year-old Townend, one of the world's best eventing riders, was airlifted to the hospital with cracks in his collarbone, chest and ribs. He was released the next day but did not return to the competition.
