Why would you even consider a kicker who plays for the Lions, who have ranked 20th or worse in scoring every year but one this decade? For starters, Hanson has connected on more 50-plus-yard field goals since 2000 (27) than any other kicker, and he's done it with an accuracy (64.3%) that only two others have topped. He's hardly draft-worthy but could be a reliable midseason sub.

[ON THE DECLINE] Kasay was a feast-or-famine commodity last year: Except for one game, he either made all of the field goals he attempted in a game (10 times) or went 0-fer (five times). The unpredictability wreaked havoc for fantasy owners, at least those who hadn't already jumped ship on a fortyish kicker who even when he is on his game has only minimal effectiveness from 40-plus yards out.
