With shoplifting and criminal mischief after he allegedly stole a $1,395 Polo Ralph Lauren satchel from a New Jersey shopping mall, former Seton Hall basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez. According to police reports, on June 29, Gonzalez entered the Polo store at the Short Hills Mall, removed a security sensor from a leather bag and left with the item without paying. Afterward, Gonzalez is alleged to have ditched the bag at a neighboring restaurant whose employees became suspicious and alerted authorities. Less than a week later, following an investigation by local police, Gonzalez turned himself in. Because of the bag's value, convictions could result in as much as five years' prison time. A lawyer representing Gonzalez, who was terminated by Seton Hall on March 17 in part because of his personal behavior, described the alleged theft as "a misunderstanding in a series of miscommunications."
