You have a number of players from Texas; what is it about players from that state that appeals to you?
JH: They have their own style of toughness that I like. Football is a way of life down there. The players are really well-coached, so they get good at the game.
Right now Owen Marecic is your starter at fullback and middle linebacker. Anything else this guy could do for you?
JH: He could definitely be a star on our special teams, but he is already playing two very physical positions. Owen is my ideal player. He loves to practice, and he almost never makes mistakes. He is the kind of guy we want to build this program around.
SI: WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR TEAM MAKES YOU MOST PROUD?
JH: THEIR RELENTLESS PLAY, AND THE FACT THAT THEY LIFT EACH OTHER UP. THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.
With Pete Carroll gone from USC, will there be a new order in the Pac-10?
JH: I think every team will be competitive.
In a Tweet this spring about 24, one of your favorite TV shows, you said you were contemplating changing your name to Jim HarBauer. What about that show grabbed you?
JH: The relentless nature of Jack Bauer. The overwhelming use of force to do what's right, knowing that there will be consequences, yet still doing something.
