OHIO STATE 12
Michigan's Bo Schembechler pulled off a stunner in his first game against his mentor, Woody Hayes. The Wolverines, 17-point underdogs, avenged 1968's 50-14 beatdown by the national-title-bound Buckeyes. Fullback Garvie Craw (48) dubbed it "the greatest victory in the history of the world."
PENN STATE 23
The Nittany Lions were supposed to cruise through Iowa City but the team and Jordan Norwood (24) got trapped. Down two, with winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz sent in Daniel Murray, a strong-legged backup, to try the game-winning field goal with one second to play. His 31-yarder was true, ending Penn State's national title hopes.
