Team captain Holland Reynolds, exhausted but determined to finish the meet for her ailing coach, crawled across the finish line in 37th place to clinch the team title.

Warners, a 1990 graduate of Calvin College, was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association D-III coach of the year after leading her alma mater team to its first national title, over top-ranked Emory. The Knights won 24 years to the day after they lost in the finals when Warners was a starting freshman setter.

Jarvis, a 43-year-old phys-ed teacher at Dakota Collegiate, coached the school's first football team to a perfect 10--0 season, as the Lancers outscored their competition 398--25 en route to the league championship. The Dakota defense surrendered just one touchdown all season and never gave up a point in the second half.
