COVINGTON, LA. > Powerlifting
Ty, a senior at St. Paul's School, won the 5A state title in the 165-pound class and had a state-record deadlift of 590 pounds. With a bonus lift given for setting that mark, he deadlifted 600 pounds for a national record in the 16-to-17-year-old division. In September he was teen champion at the Professional Raw Powerlifting Association meet in New Orleans.
O'FALLON, ILL. > Bowling
Natalie, a senior lefthander at O'Fallon High, won the state title while rolling Illinois high school records with a 799 series and total score of 2,876, and tied the high game record with a perfect 300. She converted all of her single-pin spares, and her performance over the two-day competition included a streak of 24 straight strikes. Next year she will bowl for Vanderbilt.
Ethan Settlemires and Heather Greathouse
KOSSUTH, MISS., AND NELSON, N.H. > Shooting
Settlemires, a junior, and Greathouse, a sophomore, led Kentucky to its first NCAA rifle title. They finished first and second, respectively, to win the team title in the small-bore event and helped the Wildcats to second in air rifle.
