Eric, a home-schooled senior who competes for West Valley High, won the 3A state tournament by one stroke with the lowest score on any state level, a seven-under-par 137. Trailing by three strokes on the 8th hole of the second round, Eric called a penalty on himself when only he saw his ball move after he addressed it. He shot five under over the remaining 10 holes for the win.
Emily Bausher
NEW EGYPT, N.J. > Softball, Basketball
Emily, a senior pitcher at New Egypt High, became the 15th pitcher in state history to reach 1,000 career strikeouts, in a 3--0 no-hitter over Holy Cross. She finished the season with 1,077 K's, leading the team to its second straight Group 1 title. Emily also surpassed the 1,000-point mark en route to the Warriors' first basketball sectional title this year.
Dallas Burroughs
MERIDIAN, IDAHO > Track and Field, Football
Dallas, a senior at Rocky Mountain High, set state records in the 100 meters (10.34) and 200 meters (21.06) at the 5A state meet, leading the Grizzlies to their first track title. In football he was named all-state with a team-leading 75 catches for 1,358 yards and 14 touchdowns, as well as 304 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He will play football next year at Boise State.
