"My job title is putter-boat captain. It's fun. I get to be in the sun and socialize with lots of people while getting them to the green. Golfers tell me, 'Gosh, you're a good driver.' I say, 'Yeah, I have skills.' But they don't know that the boat is on a cable, and I simply push a lever. [Laughs.] I've seen groups lose up to 10 balls. Sometimes they're grumpy, so I cheer them up with a bad joke: 'Know why they call it golf? Because the other four-letter words were taken.' I'm not sure about career advancement. Maybe I'll be promoted to putter-boat admiral some day."

THE ONE-MAN BAND

Tom Auclair

Age: 55

Job: Multitasking founder of insidetheropes.com

"I founded the website in 1997, covering every event start to finish. I do it all: reporting, writing, video, producing. I'm a workaholic. A freak. I once attended 434 consecutive tournaments. My son had to fill in for me back home [in Rhode Island] at a father-daughter dance. It took time gaining the players' trust, but I did. When Vijay Singh was not talking to anyone, I was the exception. This has been good for my marriage. After 32 years I still get butterflies when I go home. It's like we're still dating. People say, 'Well, you are. You only spend 10 weeks a year together.'"

THE MOVER
