Almost 30% of the two million jobs in the U.S. are in five golf course--rich states: California, Florida, Texas, New York and Michigan. Florida and California account for more than 160,000 jobs and almost $5 billion in wages. In San Diego, home to 75 golf-related equipment companies, the industry in 2008 employed 27,000 workers, who had an average wage of $62,000, $16,000 more than the region's overall average income. Four out of five golf workers in San Diego are employed by club manufacturers.
