Kendal, a sophomore at Stanton College Prep, was undefeated this summer in the intermediate boys' 100 and 200 meters at the USA Youth Nationals, USA Track and Field Junior Olympics and AAU Club Nationals, where he set records in both events (10.67 and 21.45). In May, he became the first freshman in Florida 3A championship-meet history to win the boys' 200 meters and won at the Golden South Classic (21.16) to become the world's No. 1--ranked 200-meter runner born in 1995.

SALIDA, COLO. > PACK BURRO RACING

Thorpe, a 40-year-old organic farmer, won the 12-mile Gold Rush Days race (1:37:45) in Buena Vista, Colo., with her jenny, Miss Kokomo, to become the first woman to win her sport's overall Triple Crown, defeating the entire field, men and women, in each race. She also won the 29-mile world championships in July and the 15-mile, 13,000-foot-elevation Boom Days race earlier this month, both with Miss Kokomo. All burros compete while loaded with 33 pounds of old-time mining gear.

Amu, a junior quarterback and cornerback, scored on a 98-yard interception return to give Service High a 34--21 lead with nine minutes left in the Fire and Ice Bowl, the first high school football game this season. Kenan, a senior quarterback at Leilehua High, responded with two TD passes to tie the score with two seconds remaining.
