Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi lays his fitness on the line
Runners aiming for Sunday's New York City Marathon should know that it takes more than mileage to prepare the body to go the distance. Meb Keflezighi, the 2009 winner and a contender this year, shares a routine that helps build a strong, injury-resistant core.
Start by lowering from a push-up position into a plank, with your weight resting on your forearms. Hold for 15 seconds.
RAISE YOUR HAND
Bring one arm parallel to the floor, and try to maintain the flat plank position. Hold. Repeat with other arm.
TWIST IT OUT
Swing your free arm down below your body, and then back out to the side. This will test your core's strength. Big time.
