In his 22nd try, cover photographer Walter Iooss Jr.'s assistant (a.k.a. Troyzan) attained his life's goal: a spot on Season 24 of Survivor, which premieres Feb. 15. (It didn't hurt that his submission tape featured testimony from the likes of models Chrissy Teigen and Alyssa Miller.) "Troy works like he is competing in the show, treating each day like a challenge," says associate editor Darcie Baum. "He has lifetime immunity with us."
A music editor, a deejay and an SI model made beautiful music together on the shores of Oz
Kismet brought the Time Out Chicago music editor to this issue. He befriended senior editor MJ Day on a press tour in Australia, and the ideas immediately started flowing. "On the long flight back we began kicking around ideas on how to integrate music into the issue," he says. The end result of the collaboration was Beauties and the Beats (page 21). DiCrescenzo used his contacts to arrange for 18 artists to contribute recent tracks to the issue; they accompany the models' "intimates" videos, which can be found at SI.com/swimtrack. One of the artists, A-Trak, joined the crew on the Australia shoot, and DiCrescenzo hung out with the deejay and Jessica Gomes as they explored Sydney and posed together. DiCrescenzo came away impressed. "Her shoot was so quick and easy," he says. "My contributor photo took longer."
