Weems, 36, an English teacher and coach of the Jaguars track teams at P.S./M.S. 15, was honored by the White House's Champions of Change program last month. Diagnosed with diabetes in 2004, Weems worked with the New York Road Runners' youth program to start an after-school track and cross-country team for children ages 10--16 and an in-school walking program for ages 5--9 to help combat childhood obesity. The two programs serve 350 students each year.

Weir, 60, the boys' soccer coach at Plano High, reached his 500th career win in February (3--0 over Richardson High) and last week led the Wildcats to a repeat 8-5A section title win and the No. 1 seed in the district postseason playoff round. He has won a Texas-record six state titles and was named the Federation of State High School Associations' national soccer coach of the year in 2009. Weir has had only two losing seasons in his 35-year tenure and plans to retire at season's end.

McKeever, a 20th-year women's coach at Cal, and Durden, a fifth-year men's coach there, led their respective teams to repeat national titles. The women won seven individual and relay crowns, and the men took six. McKeever, 50, and Durden, 36, were each named coach of the meet and celebrated by jumping in the pool with their teams.
