ENEMY lines WHAT A RIVAL COACH SAYS
"I CAN'T BELIEVE what a good job Jim Harbaugh did with this team and this offense last year. He basically took the same guys from 2010, toughened them up and almost got them to the Super Bowl.
Alex Smith is just one example. I never thought he would be more than a game manager at quarterback, but last season he made a ton of plays. I know he's pissed off that the team tried to sign Peyton Manning, but I think that will drive him.
Management did Smith a huge favor by upgrading a receiving corps that badly needed upgrading. I expect Mario Manningham to start right away. He's better than Michael Crabtree, who is a bit soft. My prediction is that Manningham will be the receiver with the most catches.
The big question is, How committed is Randy Moss? If he's serious about playing—and I doubt Harbaugh will allow him not to be—then he will have a huge impact. I don't expect him to have big numbers, but the threat of Moss downfield will open up the running game.
The best receiving threat on this team is without question Vernon Davis. He took a few weeks to pick up the offense, but when he did, wow, he was sensational.
The additions to the backfield suggest that the team is worried about Frank Gore. He just didn't look the same in the second half of last year. I bet Brandon Jacobs plays a lot, with rookie LaMichael James in a third-down role."
