FS BRADLEY MCDOUGALD SENIOR

Last season the D's best athlete finished sixth in the Big 12 with 68 solo tackles. Inconsistent at times, McDougald (6' 1'', 214) will help anchor a unit eager to improve on last year's meager interception total (eight).

RB JAMES SIMS JUNIOR

When he returns from a three-game suspension (for violating team rules), the 6-foot, 202-pound Sims—who averaged 4.2 yards on 350 carries over the last two seasons—will again shoulder the load in the backfield.

DE TOBEN OPURUM SENIOR

Two years after starting at running back and leading KU's attack with 554 yards and nine TDs, the athletic 245-pounder moved to linebacker and last year had 10½ tackles for loss and four sacks (both team highs) in 12 starts. He'll play on the right side of the line—the rush end—this fall.
