QB NATHAN SCHEELHAASE JUNIOR

Scheelhaase has experience and the confidence of Tim Beckman, but a switch to the spread a season after the offense collapsed down the stretch means he has an uphill battle. He'll need to "get some kind of swagger back," as co--offensive coordinator Chris Beatty said this spring.

DT AKEEM SPENCE JUNIOR

Strong, explosive and a hard worker, he has a chance to be the next Illini line star. The 6' 1", 305-pound Spence was fourth on the team with 69 tackles last year, including a career-high nine twice, against Northwestern and Michigan.

BREAKOUT PLAYER

CB-PR TERRY HAWTHORNE SENIOR

Mr. Versatility should be better known by season's end
