Joey, a senior at Christiansburg High, won the 126-pound title match at the Super 32 Challenge in Greensboro, N.C., with a 4--3 decision over defending champion Michael Kemerer (Murrysville, Pa.) that lifted him to the No. 1 national ranking in his weight class. The second four-time finalist in the history of the prestigious folkstyle event, Joey also is a three-time Virginia Class 2A champ. He won the FILA Junior Freestyle Nationals last April and competed at the FILA Junior Worlds in Thailand in September.
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. > VOLLEYBALL
Jessica, a 5'9" senior middle and outside hitter at Huntsville High, led the Panthers with 18 kills and added nine digs and five aces in a 3--0 win over Vestavia Hills for Huntsville's fourth straight 6A state title. The only senior on the team, she was named tournament MVP. Jessica, who moved up to varsity as an eighth-grader and played on the Panthers' past three title teams, was named The Huntsville Times's player of the year in 2011 and '10. She had 1,289 kills this season.

Talbot, a sophomore at Dartmouth, ran a 24:24.34 for third place in the centennial New England Championships, held at Stanley Park's 8K course in Westfield, Mass., to lead Big Green to a meet win. The performance reprised the school's team title at the original event, held 100 years ago in Brookline, Mass. Talbot, who is also a member of Dartmouth's men's cross-country skiing team, was Alaska's Gatorade runner of the year for both track and cross-country as a junior and senior at Robert Service High.
