For Love of the Game
Phil Taylor makes a good case for the predictive power of statistical analysis in sports (POINT AFTER), but I really hope he was only joking when he wrote, "The bottom line, though, is that ... it will be impossible to avoid more number crunching, in sports and elsewhere." My love for sports began when I was a kid playing in the backyard, in the street and on the sandlot. My buddies and I did not crunch numbers. We went out and played the games we loved. I hope the game, not the numbers, will continue to be the bottom.
