Harris, 48, in his seventh year as coach at Booker T. Washington High, led the Tornadoes to the 4A state title, beating Jacksonville's Bolles School 35--7 in a finals rematch. Named the USA Today coach of the year after taking the Tornadoes to the 2007 championship, he was an administrative assistant for the Miami program for three years before returning to Washington in '11.

Shoemaker, 58, an eighth-grade science teacher and a 14-year coach at Acton-Boxborough Regional High, won her third Division I state title with a 3--0 victory over Shrewsbury, lifting her career record to 141-20-20. She was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association coach of the year. The mother of 2008 Olympic triathlete Jarrod Shoemaker, Mae has run in 24 straight Boston Marathons.
CHICAGO > CROSS-COUNTRY
Adelmann, 28, a special-education teacher at Jones College Prep, led the Eagles boys to the first state championship by a Chicago public school since 1963, defeating three-time defending champ Belvidere North by 41 points for the Class AA title. Under Adelmann, who coaches track and the girls' teams in both sports as well, the boys have qualified for the Illinois state meet in each of his four years at the helm.
