Silento, a senior shortstop at Port Gibson High, stole seven bases in his final game, a 10--0 victory over Jefferson County, to finish with 103 steals this season and break the national record (96). He also set a national mark for steals in a game with 12 this year. A .541 batter, he swiped 3.4 bases per game for the Blue Waves, stole home six times and was thrown out only once. Silento will play at Chipola College (Marianna, Fla.).

Courtney, a freshman at Harvard-Westlake (Studio City), leaped 20'11" to set a national freshman mark and a meet record at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, Calif. The previous freshmanrecord, 20' 7¼", was set in 1979. Courtney, the national outdoor leader for all ages this season, also won the long jump at the Arcadia Invitational in April, with a leap of 20' 2¼", and the Junior Olympics title last July, with a jump of 19' 11½", setting an under-14 record.
MADEIRA, OHIO > BASEBALL
Andrew, a senior centerfielder at Madeira High, scored three times in a 16--1 rout of St. Bernard to set a state record with his 174th run. The lefthanded leadoff batter had a .556 average at week's end for the 15--4 Mustangs and was four hits from tying the Ohio career mark (200). A 5'10" guard who holds the school basketball scoring record (1,752 points), Andrew was named the Division III state player of the year in 2012 for both sports. He will play baseball at Arkansas.
