Kenzo, a junior at Papillion--La Vista High, ran the 100 meters at the Class A state meet in 10.41 to break the all-class Nebraska record (10.60). Already the 200 state record-holder (21.31), he won that event for the third straight year (21.54) and anchored the Monarchs' state-record-setting 4 × 100 relay (41.40). A cornerback on the football team, Kenzo had hip surgery after that season and, despite being unable to train again until February, defended his 100 title at the Kansas Relays in April (10.69).

Sammi, a senior attacker and co-captain at the McDonogh School (Owings Mills), scored three goals and had two assists in an 11--8 come-from-behind victory over St. Paul's School for Girls for the program's fifth straight state title and 91st consecutive win—the longest active streak in the country. The Eagles also finished as U.S. Lacrosse's No. 1--ranked program for the fourth year in a row. Sammi, who had 49 goals this season and went 78--0 during her high school career, will play at Florida.

Lopez, a senior first baseman at Cal State--Fullerton, hit back-to-back walk-off home runs to help the Titans sweep UC Irvine for a fourth straight Big West conference title. With the second game of the three-game series tied 2--2 in the bottom of the ninth, he belted a three-run shot; the next day, with his team trailing 5--4, he hit another three-run blast to clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. A Senior CLASS Award finalist, Lopez led Fullerton in batting at week's end (.344).
