SPORTS ILLUSTRATED 50 Swimsuit
SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT EDITOR
The swimsuit. It's funny how a tiny piece of fabric can evoke such emotion, ignite spirited discussions, and help change the course of the lives of those who don them. In 50 years a lot has happened in the world of swimwear. We've seen the silhouette of the swimsuit shrink, we've seen designers take risks with shapes and fabrics, and we've seen fit and function drastically improve. (We've even witnessed the arrival of the thong!) In celebrating the 50th anniversary of the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Swimsuit Issue, we wanted to pay homage to the fashion trends of the last five decades. Throughout the issue you'll notice subtle nods to some of the most iconic suits to ever grace the pages of the magazine. In this special section dedicated to swimsuit style, we will take you on a walk down memory lane. You'll see how past styles are still very much a part of what's happening in swimwear fashion today. Here we highlight some of our favorite looks—as well as some of the most infamous—in a time line displayed against the backdrop of the latest trends. Whether you love swimsuit season or dread it, one thing is for certain: In the 21st century there are plenty of stylish choices.
