Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, said yesterday he does not believe there is a significant amount of undetected use of human growth hormone by players leaguewide, but he would be receptive to any proposed changes to the sport's steroid-testing program if the league's medical advisers recommend. -- Washington Post

Bill Parcells' commitment to Drew Bledsoe is week-to-week. He hasn't made, nor is it realistic to think he will, a season-long commitment to Bledsoe. Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter said he couldn't have cheered against his own team Monday night because he was too busy chatting up fans. -- San Francisco Chronicle

How much longer Porter remains in Oakland is another story. The Raiders would like to deal Porter, but the problem is teams are not interested in him. During the offseason, the Broncos made an inquiry about Porter, but quickly shied away when they learned the price for Porter would be two first-round picks. -- NFL.com

Defensive tackle Jeff Zgonina, who was inactive last week but would be playing for many teams, said he won't request a trade, though Miami has explored dealing one of its surplus linemen. -- Miami Herald

The Lions have brought back wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim, signing the free agent to a one-year contract Tuesday. The Lions brought in Hakim for a physical in the off-season, but they didn't sign him because he had a knee problem and they wanted to look at the receivers they already had. -- Detroit Free Press

The Vikings continued to talk with the agent for Quincy Morgan on Tuesday, and it appears the two sides are closing in on a deal for the veteran receiver and kick returner. -- Minneapolis Star Tribune
