An official announcement is expected later next week. Sano, a 16-year-old shortstop, is expected to receive the largest signing bonus -- rumored to be north of $3 million -- of a position player from the baseball-rich island. At 6-foot-3, some believe Sano would be best suited at third base or in the outfield. He boasts power to all fields and a solid throwing arm.
The Pirates, Orioles and several other American League teams are said to be interested in signing Sano.
