European powerhouse Germany have received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the buildup toward Wednesday's World Cup Qualifier against Azerbaijan.

It is possible that striker Mario Gomez, who opened the score for the Germans in Saturday's 2-0 victory against South Africa, could miss the home match due to a knee injury.

The Bayern Munich attacker is being plagued by pain in his right knee and therefore left the training pitch during Sunday's training session. Gomez will probably be sidelined for a couple of days due to the knock.

The 24-year-old hitman will most likely be replaced by teammate Miroslav Klose on Wednesday evening, but head coach Joachim Loew could also opt to hand Cacau or Lukas Podolski a starting berth.

The Germans are atop of the table in group four with nineteen points from seven matches. Second placed Russia trail Germany by a single point.
