(Editor's Note: A look at the last 10 No. 1 vs. No. 2 regular-season matchups.)

The Sooners fumbled the ball 10 times, losing five, but still held a 24-14 lead in the fourth quarter. Then USC tailback Marcus Allen, who finished with 208 yards, scored his second TD to get the Trojans within three. USC quarterback John Mazur led a miraculous drive to get the Trojans into field goal range, but USC coach John Robinson had no interest in a tie. On third-and-goal from the seven, Mazur scrambled before finding Fred Cornwell for the game-winning score with two seconds left.
