Michael Jordan, 1987 -
The Newseum -- a 250,000-square-foot museum in Washington, D.C. -- has raised the curtain on an October exhibit featuring highlights from the career of legendary Sports Illustrated photographer Walter Iooss Jr. Here are some of the photos in that exhibit. Many of the shots in ''Athlete: The Sports Illustrated Photography of Walter Iooss'' were published in Iooss's 2008 book, ''Athlete.''

The ''blue dunk'' picture was taken in Lisle, Ill. Because Michael and I hadn't discussed which uniform he was going to wear, I had my assistants paint this huge parking lot -- one section red and one section blue. When he showed up in his red uniform, we set up on the contrasting blue court. I had a basket on wheels, so I could shift it into position so the shadow would be in the right place.''
