OBERHOF, Germany (AP) -- Vladimir Drachev of Russia shot perfectly to capture a men's 10-kilometer World Cup biathlon event Friday, beating Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway by 3.6 seconds. Liv Grete Skjelbreid of Norway overcame two shooting errors to win the women's 7.5-kilometer sprint and gain her first World Cup victory. Drachev, a 32-year-old soldier from St. Petersburg, was the only top finisher not to miss a target. Bjoerndalen had two misses from the prone position and the two penalty laps cost him the victory. Drachev clocked 27 minutes, 44.6 seconds to clinch his 11th World Cup victory. Ricco Gross, three-time Olympic relay champion with Germany, finished third, 16 seconds behind Drachev, after one miss from the prone position. Pavel Rostovstev of Russia also shot perfectly to finish fourth and take the lead in World Cup standings with 143 points, one ahead of Sven Fisher of Germany, who was a distant 18th after four penalty laps. Skjelbreid, 24, covered the women's distance in 24 minutes, 23.8 minutes, including two penalty laps. Olena Zubrilova of Ukraine hit all the targets and finished second, 16.7 seconds behind the Norwegian. Nadezhda Talanova of Russia was third, 31.3 seconds behind, with one shooting error. Uschi Disl of Germany placed fourth to open a nine-point lead in the women's World Cup standings over defending champion Magdalena Forsberg of Sweden, who finished 13th.
