> BIOGRAPHY
A former NHL goaltender, Eliot played for the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres. He joined the Thrashers as a television analyst after spending two seasons as a broadcaster for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. In addition to his TV work with the Thrashers, Eliot has worked the past three Stanley Cup Finals and NHL All-Star games, as well as the 2004 World Cup for NHL Radio's coverage on Westwood One. During the 2003-04 NHL season, Eliot had a regular segment on TSN's "That's Hockey" and served as a guest in-studio analyst for the Canadian network as well. From 2000-02, Eliot served as the in-studio hockey analyst for the CNN / Sports Illustrated network during the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Eliot also serves as the Director of Community Sports Programming for the Atlanta Spirit. Eliot, who has served as the Thrashers TV analyst since the team's 1999-2000 Inaugural Season, has worked in community programming for the past three seasons.
Outside of broadcasting, Eliot writes a weekly column, "Views from the Ice," that has been a staple of SI.com's NHL coverage for the past four years. He has also written a weekly column for NHL.com the past two seasons and contributes to the Thrashers Web site.
Prior to his career in broadcasting, Eliot worked for Computer Methods Corporation, a software-consulting firm headquartered in Livonia, Mich., from 1989-97. There he served as president of CMC's engineering services subsidiary, EnGenius, Inc., for two years.
A 1983 graduate of Cornell University with a degree in agricultural economics, Eliot earned membership into the Red Key Society for students exemplifying excellence in academics and athletics. With the Big Red, Eliot was a two-time All-Ivy selection and earned All-America honors as a senior. He entered the Cornell
Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Following his collegiate career, Eliot played for the 1984 Canadian Olympic team in Sarajevo.
Darren and wife Meredith have two daughters -- Avery and Gillian -- and a son, Mitchell. The family resides in Duluth, Ga.
