Posted: Tuesday November 16, 1999 04:55 PM

Jackie Gallagher is not only one of Australia's top triathletes, but one of the best in the world. Currently ranked No. 3 by the International Triathlon Union, Gallagher has been competing in triathlons since 1992. In 1996 she won both the Duathlon World Championship and Triathlon World Championship, and in 1998 she won the Triathlon World Cup. Training in Mermaid Beach, Queensland, Australia, her next major goal is make the 2000 Olympic team.

The triathlon, which combines distance running, biking and swimming, will make its debut at the Sydney Olympic Games. The world's top four triathletes are currently Australian, so the three athletes that make Australia's team will be favored to win a medal.
