Reactions: Marino in Minnesota

Users ready to see Marino in Purple

Posted: Thursday March 09, 2000 08:42 AM

Dan Marino Most users believe if Dan Marino wants to win a championship, he certainly won't get one in Miami. AP

After the Vikings showed interest in giving Dan Marino the starting QB job, CNNSI.com users reacted in great numbers. Most users want to see the legendary No. 13 in the Twin Cities. But there were a few who want to see him end his career in Miami. Here are some of the most interesting responses:

Dan Marino should go to the Vikings as their starter and see what happens. The Vikings are a first class organization and they will treat him right. Look what Jeff George did last year with minimal time with the club. This is not nuclear physics -- it's just football. And going to Minnesota would give him another chance to go out on top. It's a no-brainer to me. The Dolphins did not want him to be their starter last year after he had some injury problems. The Vikings said they wanted him. If it were up to me I go to Minnesota.
Bobby G., Boulder, Colo.

The only thing left for Marino to accomplish is winning a Super Bowl. So go Dan, Go and win yourself that championship ring you rightfully deserve. He will have a better chance to win it with an actual contender than in Miami.
Ron Luttrell, Lima, Ohio

Marino should go to the Vikings and at least give it a try. He can afford to live there for a season or two. At least he would be appreciated. The receivers they have will hold onto the ball when he puts it right in their hands.
Richard Hoyt, Westminster, Mass.

Stay in Miami, if they let him be the starter. The D is better and he should retire a Fin. Minnesota has better receivers, but the Defense and O-line are awful. Dan should end his career where he started it.
Peter Coolbaugh, Arlington, Va.

He should retire. He just doesn't have what it takes anymore.
Dung Nguyen, Arlington, Va.

If the Vikings are offering Marino the starting job what's he waiting for. The Dolphins are a joke and he's never going to win a championship in Miami. He needs to go somewhere were he can start fresh and be appreciated.
Adam Tribbett, Bloomington, Ind.

I think Dan Marino should take the offer from the Vikings because he still has what it takes to win in the NFL -- no question about it. With guys like Moss, Carter and Robert Smith, I think the old Marino will prove all the doubters wrong. Dan never had the supporting cast like he would have in Minnesota. Give him another shot and I will bet that he goes out on top. Besides, Miami is not going to the playoffs next year with the talent they have. Go for it No. 13.
Frank Degrazio, West Orange, N.J.

Marino should have retired five years ago. His arm is average at best and I have seen people in wheelchairs who were more mobile. I can't believe any team would want him over Jeff George.
Ted, Roanoke, Va.

I think Marino should move to Minnesota. Things haven't been so great for him in Miami. Let's look at the facts. First of all, yes, he is 39. But I really think he can perform just as well as a 29 year-old. Second, he hasn't had the depth of receivers to throw to. Can you imagine what it would be like with the Marino-Carter-Moss connection? Wow! Make the move Dan!
Aaron Furstenau, Fargo, N.D.

If the Minnesota Vikings acquired Dan Marino, they would be absolutely unstoppable. They have three supreme receivers (Randy Moss, Chris Carter, and Jake Reed), and with Marino, they would be definite contenders for the Super Bowl.
Alex Raven, Plainwell, Mich.

Marino is and always will be a Dolphin. Give him the opportunity to show he can still play for Miami, and I believe he will. He is the Miami Dolphin franchise -- period!
Rich Castellucci, Stamford, Conn.

I think Dan Marino has been treated badly in the past few years by the Dolphins. I would like to see things change but I am sure they won't. The NFL isn't ready for Dan to retire and either am I. Go VIKINGS!
Roger Dockstader, Toronto, Ontario

The thought of having Chris Carter and Randy Moss to throw to is SO Tempting. But it is cold outside in Minnesota and the turf is artificial. Danny should stay in Miami, with the Dolphins. He can play or mentor, and be with his family in the warm south. It is easier on the joints. Nothing will alter the fact that he's the best.
Carol Wawrzyniak, Warren, Mich.

Dan Marino has the rest of his life to spend quality time with his family and play golf. This is his last chance at winning a Super Bowl title. Dan, I think you should go for it in Minnesota.
Norm, Illinois
