Reactions: Goodbye, Adam Users remember the driving phenom with fondnessPosted: Saturday May 13, 2000 02:06 PM CNNSI.com users responded quickly to the news of Adam Petty's death on Friday afternoon. A sampling of the responses we received follows:What a horrible, devastating tragedy. Adam had such a wonderful future ahead of him and was such a fine young man. We have admired for a while now and have admired his dad, Kyle and grandfather, Richard for many years. We are so terribly sorry and send our sympathy and prayers to the Petty family.
It's a sad day for the entire racing community that such a young talent is gone. My heart goes out to the Petty family and the NASCAR family as well.
The tragic death of Adam Petty brings home the ever-present danger each race car driver faces each time he/she enters a car. All drivers and families are aware of the tenuousness of life. The NASCAR community live their lives founded on religious strength and family values. Adam Petty was a young man of principle with a great future, the only fourth-generation participant in any sport. He and his famous father, grandfather, and great-grandfather have served as models for the world to admire. The Pettys are devoted to charitable works and put into practice what many only espouse.
I was on hand at Texas Motor Speedway and took a picture of Adam on a parade lap. I thought it would be neat to be able to show my grandchildren after he won his 7th championship that I was there when it all began for him. I was sad that day in April after Adam blew and engine and pulled off the track. I am heartbroken and on the verge of tears today as I realize that Adam is gone. Gone but not forgotten. My condolences to the Petty family and anyone who was ever able to meet this remarkable young man.
Adam will be missed very deeply from everyone all over the county. It is very sad when someone as young as he was and on the road to stardom is taken away. Its hard to understand why things like this happen to the Petty family. I have grown up watching NASCAR races with my father every Sunday and I have seen the Kyle and Adam race and I was really excited about Adam racing now and I was looking forward to watching all his victories. I will keep the Petty family in my thoughts and prayers.
I have been a Petty fan for nine years and this saddens me greatly. I was looking forward to seeing Adam race at Charlotte this month. He was a fine young man and a great young racer. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to his whole family. I will keep you in my prayers.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Adam Petty. My husband and I attended our first NASCAR race in Texas this past April. We were excited to see Adams debut! His sweet demeanor and smile had already won over the hearts of the NASCAR fans, even the ones crazy enough to fly down clear from Iowa! May the Lord be with Adam and his family. Adam is surely looking down on all of us with his sweet Petty smile!
I'm saddened to hear of Adam's death. I want the Petty family to know that they are my in prays and thought. Having lost a son a year and a half older than Adam, I know how the feel. My son even met Adam's grandad and had his picture taken and printed in the Pittsburgh, Penn. paper. He liked the Petty team. God Bless and keep the Petty family. The Petty family are truly great people.
To the Petty family, We would like to send our most heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Adam. We have watched the progress of this young man for many years and are so saddened at the loss. He surely represented all that is good in this world. Our prayers are with each one of you.
This is so sad! I cannot imagine what the Pettys are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Petty family. Adam seemed to be a fine young man with high respect, morals, and a deep sense of family. Many people search all of their lives for a family like the Pettys! May God Bless them.
You could tell that Adam was a Petty every time he smiled. That great smile, made famous by his grandfather Richard, is one of the trademarks of the first family in American motor sports. His father, Kyle, had huge shoes to fill when he embarked on a Winston Cup career, but Kyle's unique personality makes him a favorite everywhere regardless of his record on the track.
Adam's debut at Dallas was an exciting one. We travel to that race annually, he made it a very exciting weekend. It was good to hear the interviews on the local radio station with the rookie drivers. Received a phone call from a friend, knowing I am a fan, to let me know what has happened today. It was a tremendous loss. My prayers and thoughts will be with his family through these times.
Adam Petty was a fine driver and a wonderful person. He was more than a shadow to Richard and Kyle, he was his own person and a talented one at that. It is an immeasurable loss that the racing community has suffered, and though he was new to the scene, Adam Petty will never be forgotten by his fans and admirers. This is a sad day for all of us who enjoyed Adam's youthful ambition and love of the sport. He will truly be missed by many. Adam, we love you!
What a tragedy for NASCAR. I was really looking forward to cheering him on next year. All race fans have missed the opportunity to see another great legend.
