Users sound off on last week's CNN/World Soccer Top 10

Latest: Monday September 25, 2000 04:19 PM

CNN and World Soccer magazine release their votes each Monday for the Top 10 football clubs worldwide, and we want to know your opinion. Below is a selection of some of the best from the last week. Check back next week to see the response to this week's Top 10.

Here we go again once more. When will the voters learn that Manchester United is playing in a semi-pro league like the Premiership? Put Manchester in another league like the Spanish, Italian or German and they will be ninth or 10th at the most and with luck.
Jose Feijoo, Caracas, Venezuela

Dear sir, the CNN/World soccer Top 10 seems really appropriate. I enjoy logging on it very much. Thank you.
Sherap Passang, Kathma, Nepal

When I see Manchester United ranked No. 1, I feel OK.
Karim Soboh, Damascus

I really don't understand why Fluminense is out of the top 10 list!
Leonardo Sukman, Brazil

In my opinion Manchester United's performances are overvalued. It's the same thing with Galatasaray. Their match against Sturm Graz proved that they depend too much on Hagi and his shape. At the moment, I think that Bayern Munich is the strongest side in European football. Seen the fact that they are still without their key figures such as Effenberg, Jeremies, Paulo Sergio, etc., it is stunning to see how they dominate their domestic league and their Champions League opponents.
Mounir El Baz, Bonn, Germany

Did you forget the Brazilian sensation, Fluminense? It was on the top 10 two weeks ago, but not now. I feel it is quite unfair.
Luiz Octavio, Rio de Janeiro

After winning home and away in the UEFA Champs League and placing 3rd in the English Premiership, I think Arsenal really deserves to be No. 5 or 6. Plus, where is Juventus? I mean, it isn't easy to draw 4-4 against Hamburg, which is third in the Bundesliga. Juve was on the road and they were second in Serie A.
Selemi Owusu, Accra, Ghana

I think Valencia should be above Real Madrid and Barcelona. Valencia has won their first two matches in the champions league (home & away). Plus, Real are slipping. They soon won't be in the top 10 because they where only able to beat Spartak Moscow 1-0.
JD, Madrid

How can Manchester United always be on top, even when they lose? Get real. You guys are amateurs and are biased towards English soccer. Your ratings system is a joke and should not be taken seriously. Next time take a look at the official Reuters European Soccer Ranking.
Cal, Durban, South Africa

I believe if someone likes winning, it is best to root for a Spanish team. They are the most consistent, and they have shown it.
Marco, Bern, Switzerland

Where is Deportivo La Coruna? They should at least be in the top 10. River Plate should be No. 1 because they are leading the Apertura, and they have an unstoppable attacking quartet.
Anastacio, Salinas

Manchester United deserves their top spot. They managed an excellent draw against Dinamo, even without Stam and Barthez and on a badly managed turf.
Paul Li, Canberra

It will be a big mistake if Galatasaray falls from the top 10 because of one irrelevant game in Austria. Remember what happened after Chelsea beat them 5-0? Yes, the Super Cup.
Mehmet Kara, State College, Pa.

Thank you for putting Manchester United in at No. 1! They are totally awesome, and they are my favorite team! My choices for the top 10 would be: 1: Man. U; 2: Real Madrid; 3: Lazio; 4: Bayern Munich; 5: River Plate; 6: Boca Juniors; 7: Arsenal; 8: Barcelona; 9: AC Milan; 10: Valencia.
Nathan Kogut, College Station, Texas
