Georgia Schweitzer hopes to continue to play as well as last year when she was ACC player of the year. |
CNNSI Host: Welcome to today's chat with CNNSI.com's chat with Duke's Georgia Schweitzer. Welcome Georgia!
Georgia Schweitzer: No problem!
From Crystal Davis in Wilmington, Ohio: First, I would like to say you're one of the best woman college players I've ever seen -- keep up the good work. How did you get started playing basketball and do you plan to go pro?
Georgia Schweitzer: Thank you, I started playing basketball when I was in first grade I wanted to do everything my two older brothers were doing and I'm considering playing basketball professionally but I also have medical school.
From Barry in Phoenix, Ariz.: Hey Georgia...Duke Law '00 (and Walnut Ridge High School '92) here. I have followed you since your days at Hartley, and I am curious to know if you would postpone medical school for the WNBA. Also, what does Coach G's projected starting lineup look like? How will Iciss Tillis and Alana Beard figure in?
Georgia Schweitzer: That's right down the road from my high school. Definitely thinking about putting off medical school to play professionally. Our starting lineup, we don't really know yet it is something that we can change throughout the season and Icisss and Alana and the other three freshman could play a big role for us this year
From norm: Congratulations on last season. What teams do you see stopping Duke from winning a national championship?
Georgia Schweitzer: There are a lot of talented teams this year in the NCAA. Many of the teams returned a lot of their players, including Connecticut and Tennessee and there are so many teams that have the potential to win the National Championship so it's gonna be a real battle.
From fan: What changes to you see from this years team compared to last years team?
Georgia Schweitzer: This year's team is a lot more athletic. We're going to be pressing a lot more and fast-breaking a lot more. We also, however, will do some of the same stuff that we did last year like motion offense and posting up our guard.
From Kent B. in Springfield, Ohio: Hi Georgia! What team will provide the greatest challenge to Duke for an ACC title and who do you feel is another top player in the ACC?
Georgia Schweitzer: Every team in the ACC has the ability to beat any other team on any given night. In the ACC you have to be ready to play every game and there is no team that you can just look past. And one of the other top players is one of the players from Florida State and her name is Brooke Wyckoff.
From Chris in Kerhonkson, N.Y.: Do you have any tips for getting into school like Duke or another school to look at you?
Georgia Schweitzer: Keep working hard on your different basketball skills and fill out all the questionnaire forms that the colleges send you and I would say keep doing well in school, keep your grades up.
From Jack Bova in New York City, N.Y.: Considering your quick first step and driving ability and despite Shane Battier's defensive prowess, do you think you could still take Battier to the hole?
Georgia Schweitzer: No ..]laughs[ I never have .. I've been in the gym when he is shooting and stuff and no, Shane is a great player.
From norm: As a student-athlete, do you see that impacting your social life relative to other students?
Georgia Schweitzer: I love being a student athlete It definitely requires that you manage your time extremely well. While I might not have as much time as my other friends that don't play sports the experiences that I have from sports are well worth whatever I am losing.
From norm: What do you see as your greatest challenges in the classroom and on the court this year?
Georgia Schweitzer: In the classroom, I am taking a few graduate-level courses so it s a little intimidating and on the court, we have a very young team and it's going to be my job to keep things running smoothly.
From Jennifer in Durham, N.C.: What is your fondest basketball memory?
Georgia Schweitzer: My fondest basketball memory is when I was a younger girl, around ten or so, and I used to play outside with boys from the neighborhood all day.
CNNSI Host: That's all the time we have today with Georgia. Thanks for joining us and good luck this season.
Georgia Schweitzer: Thanks and I have to say go Blue Devils
