Reactions: England coach

Many users call Eriksson right man for the job

Sven Goran Eriksson Most users believe Sven Goran Eriksson is the right choice for England's head coach despite his nationality. AP

Sven Goran Eriksson recently became the first non-Englishman to coach England's national side. We asked CNNSI.com users if he was the right man for the job, and a sample of the responses received follows:

I think that the English should not worry about the coach's nationality but their poor results. The coach's nationality doesn't affect the results if the players do their bests. The results are all that matters and the only thing that they have to do now is helping the new coach who is brave enough to coach the team that did not have much success under English coaches for long time.
Michael Jung, Seoul, South Korea

I think Sven Eriksson is the best choice by far, he has one of the best CVs in football management going. Yes, I would much rather have had an English coach, but the FA have not had the foresight to plan for the future so we must make this concession.
Robin Loynes, United Kingdom

I strongly believe that Sven Goran Eriksson is one of the best soccer coaches in the world. However, I doubt if he is going to succeed in his new job as England's coach. It will be very difficult for him to understand the mentality of the players and the fans and especially the style of the English soccer. Which is different from the one played in the rest of Europe. I think he should have stayed in Lazio.
George Tasiopoulos, Athens, Greece

I think England has not yet gotten the right coach for their National Team. I still bet on Arsenal's coach for England, because I believe that he is best fit for the position after the Manchester coach refused the to coach England.
Ali Ahmad, Lagos, Nigeria

What England has needed in the past decade is a makeover and it can't come any better in the form of Eriksson. England has the pure talent to compete in Europe, but how they have used it has been in question all along. Eriksson has the know how to put them in the right direction.
Miguel Machado, London

Sir Alex Ferguson would be the right person to coach England's team.
Alikhan Wallani, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Erik is the right man to do something. England has talent. Maybe not as much as France or the Dutch but enough to give teams of that caliber a definite run for their money. They need someone with a different and fresh new approach on how to get this team together.
Mokaddes Khan, Atlanta

I think that the English need to face facts, there are no home grown coaches who are ready to take up such a demanding position. Every prestigious club in the UK is managed by an expatriate coach, and I believe that says a lot about the quality of coaching available there.
Neil Best, Barbados

Sven Göran Eriksson is definitely the right choice; the English people are very lucky to have a coach with his skills just look at his record!
Angelita, Stockholm, Sweden

The English game is in need of some type of change in order to keep up with the rising powers in Europe like France, Spain and Norway. Eriksson has both the experience and credentials to bring England back into the spotlight in both Europe and the world. Once Eriksson establishes himself with the English players, media and public, I think that most of the critics will begin to back off, especially if he leads the team into 2002 on a hot streak.
Jason R, Philadelphia

Eriksson is currently the best coach in the world, both country and club. England has many talented players like Beckham, Scholes, Owen, and others. Keegan didn't know how to use them. But this guy can do miracles even with bad teams. He will lead England to at least the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup.
George Semeonov, Glendale, Calif.
