Reactions: Top 10 Users sound off on Real Madrid's return to No. 1Posted: Monday November 06, 2000 12:48 PMUpdated: Monday November 06, 2000 4:09 PM
Real Madrid returned to the catbird seat in the CNN/World Soccer Top 10 last week, while Manchester United fell to No. 3. As always, we asked for your response to the rankings. Here's sample of what you had to say: As the poet said, "Men may come and men may go, but Manchester United goes on forever." United has shown for 50 years they are the best team in the world. Some may hit the high spots for a week or two, or like Arsenal for a year or t0wo, but the bottom line is United, with names like Jackie Carey, Alf Ramsey, Denis Law, the Charltons are the top team of all time.As the poet said, "Men may come and men may go, but Manchester United goes on forever." Okay, Real Madrid should be No. 1. But Manchester United should be ahead of Arsenal. The Red Devils can still kick it into a much higher gear than Arsenal on any given day.
Week in and week out, we only see clubs from all the top leagues in Europe filling in the Top 10. Is the ranking only meant for clubs that reside in Europe? If this is the case, it should be known as CNN/Europe Soccer Top 10 instead.
The Top 10 is a really good reflection of the way the teams concerned have been playing. For example, AC Milan has been playing really well in the Serie A, and in my opinion has been unlucky not to come away with more wins. Real Madrid have been playing brilliant soccer and deserve their No. 1 spot.
I think Arsenal deserves to be ranked No. 1. They have been playing really well in both the Champions League and the Premier League. Galatasaray should be in the Top 10. I think it is one of the best teams in Europe right now.I think Arsenal deserves to be ranked No. 1. They have been playing really well in both the Champions League and the Premier League. Galatasaray should be in the Top 10.
Where is Club Bruges of Belgium? Sixteen games unbeaten should be more than enough to make the Top 10.
I think Manchester United should be No. 1 because they have the best team at the moment in England and Real Madrid has lost three or four matches already in the Spanish League.
I continue to be amazed at this sickening British bias. Why is Arsenal the No. 2 team in the world? They finished top in their first round group, so what?
Are these rankings based on past performance or what? There is no way that Manchester United should be that high! Based on this system, Galatasaray should be No. 1. Heck they won the Super Cup!
Real Madrid is KING! They deserve to be No. 1. I agree with Valencia and Deportivo -- they are in the right spots. It's good to see La Liga getting the honors it deserves.
Real Madrid definitely deserves to be on top with Arsenal but I don't think Mancester United should be there after their poor showing recently. I think Anderlecht and Flamengo deserve to be in the Top 10.
