Posted: Tuesday November 07, 2000 7:07 PM

Katie Douglas Last season, Katie Douglas led Purdue to its third consecutive Big Ten championship. Todd Warshaw/Allsport

CNNSI Host: Welcome to our women's basketball chat with Purdue's Katie Douglas. Welcome Katie!
Katie Douglas: All right. Thank you.

From Steve in Indianapolis, Ind.: Can you hear people in the stands cheering and screaming during the game or are you just in a "zone" on the court?
Katie Douglas: I probably would have to say that I am in a zone on the court and I cannot hear the fans.

From Marty3: Hello Katie, How competitive will it be playing in the Big Ten conference this upcoming season?
Katie Douglas: It's going to be extremely competitive. As usual, I think the other 10 teams are going to give us a game every night. It's going to be extremely physical and you can't take anything for granted in the Big Ten.

From Kelly in West Lafayette, Ind.: After seeing the impressive start of the freshmen in exhibition play, what kind of impact do you see them making this season and how do you feel about the team's chances come March?
Katie Douglas: I think the freshmen have done an exceptional job of coming in and adjusting to a new system. We expect even more things from them after they totally get used to everything. Come March, our team goal is to be in St. Louis (for the Final Four).

From Foxie_00: Hi Katie, you are my favorite player. How does it feel to be a role model in women's college sports today?
Katie Douglas: Well, thanks for the support! It's a great honor to be a role model for young girls. It feels good and I just try to set the best example on and off the courst and hopefully, young girls can follow my example.

From Allison Hawkins in Orleans, Ind.: Hi Katie! Good Luck this season! Do you think the Purdue basketball teams will feed off of the success of the Boilermaker football team? Do you go to the football games? Have you met Drew Brees?
Katie Douglas: Wow... okay, (laughs.) We're hoping that we're going to be as successful as the football team, as they continue to win and hopefully go to the Rose Bowl. Yes, I do go to the football games when they are at home. Yes, I have met Drew Brees. He is a very nice guy. It's a great feeling to walk through the tunnel and see the fans and the lights, when you walk through the tunnel. I couldn't think of a better place to play college basketball.

From Jessica: Katie, what do you feel is the team's toughest game in the upcoming schedule?
Katie Douglas: Well, Jessica, I think the first game is going to be the toughest. We just take it one game at a time, here. Eastern Michigan is going to be the toughest opponent.

From Marty3: Hello Katie, Who do you consider the top players in women's college basketball today?
Katie Douglas: I think the starting five for UConn are among the top players in the nation. And also Tamika Catchings from Tennessee.

From Chris Hines in Indianapolis, Ind.: Hey Katie! As a fellow Perry Meridian grad it's good to see you doing so well. Are you looking forward to the possibility of the WNBA and playing for the Fever?
Katie Douglas: Absolutely. It is a dream of mine to hopefully get the opportunity to get to play in the WNBA. I would also love to play in front of my hometown with the Indiana Fever!

From Marty3: Hello Katie, What will it take for Purdue to win "The National Championship" this upcoming season in College Basketball?
Katie Douglas: I think it's going to take a lot of chemistry, and a lot of people accepting their roles on the team.

From Boiler: Katie-I hear that you have a new canine friend....what is his or her name and what kind of dog is he/she?
Katie Douglas: (Laughs) My new canine friend, his name is Scooby. He is a Cairn Terrier. He is three months old.

From foxie_00: Katie, do you get a lot of fan mail at Purdue?
Katie Douglas: Actually, I do get a lot of fan mail. I apologize because I don't always get to write back as promptly. But I do try to write back every one of my fans that ask me to do so.

From Ed in Holliston, Mass.: I am Purdue alum, Class of "70". I went through Purdue watching the likes of Bob Griese and Rich Mount play. I am glad to see we are getting back to winning ways at Purdue especially in women's basketball. I am elated at the team's success 1999 with national championship and the string of Big Ten tournament wins. That team (1999) set the standard, even for the men. So given that, what do you think of Purdue's long-term future is in basketball? I am really enthused about this year's team! Do we have a repeat in the making?
Katie Douglas: I think the future is bright, especially with the wonderful six freshmen that are here ... and hopefully with the returning players and the freshmen, we can make another run at another national championship this year.

From Fabrice Henriot in Nantes, France: What do you think about your teammate Cherrise Graham?
Katie Douglas: I think Cherrise is a great addition to the team. She brings a lot of enthusiasm. She's probably the quickest player on our team. I see Cherrise as becoming one of the bright stars in women's college basketball.

From Jessica: Do you still keep in touch with team alums like Stephanie and Ukari?
Katie Douglas: Yes, I keep in touch with both of them. They are at most of our games, and continue to support us in every way.

From Ali: What is your address to send you a letter?
Katie Douglas: 1790 Mackey Arena -- Room 44 -- West Lafayette, Ind. 47907. Just address your letter to me and I will get it. Thanks.

From foxie_00: How does it feel to be reaching the end of your wonderful college career?
Katie Douglas: It feels great, but at the same time, it's a little bit sad because I love college. On the other hand, I am excited about the opportunities in the future.

CNNSI Host: That's all the time we have today with Katie Douglas. Thanks for joining us and good luck this season!
Katie Douglas: Thank you for having me. Thanks!
