Reactions: Daniel Snyder

Users say Washington owner's actions misguided

Daniel Snyder Daniel Snyder's controlling actions have rubbed many fans the wrong way. Doug Pensinger/Allsport

Fred Hickman called a Timeout! to explain why football fans dislike Washing Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. CNNSI.com users overwhelmingly agreed that Snyder's approach to ownership leaves a lot to be desired. A sample of the responses follows:

Daniel Snyder is, and never will be or even come close to being, half the man Jack Kent Cooke was. JKC was and always will be what the Redskins are about. Mr. "BIGSHOT" should take a few lessons from JKC's legacy. Maybe Daniel should fire himself?
Matt Dally, Watertown, S.D.

Snyder needs look no further than 30 miles up the road at Peter Angelos in Baltimore to see that this method consistently fails. I'll enjoy a burgundy and gold-free playoffs this year. Go Ravens.
Jason Reddish, College Park, Md.

Hey, Fred, give the man a break! All the guy is doing is trying to give his team the best chance of winning a game. It was injuries that killed the Redskins and Norv Turner and Brad Johnson. The last time I checked Mr. Synder didn't play a single down!
David L.Paster, Mableton, Ga.

I think Fred makes a valid point. Being a life-long Redskins' fan I don't question Dan Snyder's passion to win, but what I do question is the way in which he intends to get there. Saturday's game was an embarrassment to sit through. I think this team suffers from the "Wizard of Oz syndrome" -- no brains, no courage and no heart!
Chuck Banner, Castlewood, Va.

Daniel Snyder was the kid who was picked last in the schoolyard. The kid who had his lunch money stolen, and the kid who ran home and cried about it. Now, he can get back at these bullies the only way he knows how -- by being their boss.
Brian Domerstad, Denville, N.J.

Daniel Snyder is young. Unlike all the rest of us, he became a millionaire by 34 (or earlier). So he is used to doing things fast and getting what he wants. Football is a little different. His heart is in the right place (He loves the Redskins and wants them to do well). He's even willing to back his enthusiasm with his wallet (more than can be said about a lot of owners). Finally, he simply has to learn how to "build" a team rather than "buy" a team. By the time he's 44 years old he'll be a much better owner.
Bruce A. Jones, Potomac, Md.

Dan Snyder is a great owner. It is up to the coaches to create the kind of atmosphere needed to win big games. If the Redskins were division champions, all analyst -- including Fred Hickman -- would praise him for spending the money to bring in the big-name players. It has been the lack of focus that has kept the Redskins from becoming the greatest team ever.
Carl Salley, New York

Speaking as a life-long Redskin fan I have to agree with Fred. I can describe the essence of this current Redskins team with one sentence. They are indefensible.
Dave Stout, Poolesville, Md.

Charlie Casserly set the Redskins up to be a solid contender for years ... top draft picks, plenty of cap room and a good coaching staff. Way to blow it, Danny Boy. We're loving it in 'Big D'.
Glenn, Dallas

I agree that the bun heaters were a touch arrogant. But isn't Pittsburgh just a little cheap for not having them for their players? He's just trying to treat his players well. Pat Riley demanded similar kinds of improvements (first-class accommodations, prepared meals) when he took over the Heat, and was applauded for similar gestures.
Philippe Herndon, Fairfax, Va.

Who's laughing loudest at the 2000 Redskins? I say it's John Kent Cooke. He also won the popular vote, but lost the bidding to Snyder. I'll bet he is also sad to see what has happened to the once proud and respected franchise that he and his father built.
Tim Fahey, Washington

My God! Does this man have no shame? I bet Snyder's players really hated having those heaters. How dare he spend money in an effort to win? Everyone knows that you get Super Bowl rings (and media adulation) the way the 49ers did -- by cheating on the salary cap.
Alex Long, Morgantown, W.Va.
