Dennis Miller Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion about Dennis Miller. David Leeds/Allsport

After Dr Z. released his ratings for his Third Annual TV Commentator Awards. We asked CNNSI.com users how they rate the guys in the booth. A sample of the responses follows:

Dr. Z, you kind of miss the point with Dennis Miller. Monday Night Football should be a little different and the commentators necessarily play a bigger role. Miller hasn't stomped on the good games and he has made the bad ones a lot more enjoyable. Really, he is the only reason to watch a dog like the season finale. Plus he has gotten better as the season has progressed. All the sports columnists hate Miller, but pretty much all the fans I know enjoy him.
Adam Tebrugge, Sarasota, Fla.

Who would you want to call the NFL's best game of the week or the Super Bowl, Pat Summerall and John Madden, hands down. They don't get all 'X'ey and 'O'ey, and bring the game down to the "Joe Fan." I would watch Cincinnati vs. Seattle if Summerall and Madden were calling it. Is there such a thing as turning down the video and turning up the audio on that game?
Andrew Ziola, Omaha, Neb.

Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms were probably the best in the business this year. The duo blends wisdom and entertainment better than anyone else. Simms knows what he is talking about, unlike those guys on ESPN (except for Mike Patrick). Gumbel has smoothness and the ability to enhance the game with exciting commentary.
D.D. Banks, Memphis, Tenn.

I used to watch every Monday Night Football game, but Dennis Miller has totally turned me off of MNF. His odd references and witty remarks are annoying. He tries to be cute and make people think, but football has always been my bastion away from using my brain. I just want to clear my head and watch the game. I give the Monday Night Football crew no stars.
Dan Crisp, Memphis, Tenn.

Get off the "I hate Dennis" bandwagon and appreciate him for what he is, a person that can make a Jaguars vs. Bears game interesting. Do you really need the game spelled out for you as you go along? Have you ever seen the movie Grumpy Old Men?
Dan, Chicago

It's time for Madden to hang it up. No one even understands his nostalgic flashbacks of how the game used to be when he coached, nor do we care. Pass the microphone over to Matt Millen.
Daniel Oldroyd, New York

By far the best commentator is Matt Millen. He catches everything, and really is adept at pointing out nuances that we might not get to see on the first view of a play. The worst to me is Phil Simms. It's a rare instance to me when he has anything useful to add to a broadcast. I am not looking forward to him calling the Super Bowl.
Chuck, Nashville, Tenn.

I think Dan Fouts and Al Michaels are a great team. Get that clod Dennis Miller off the air. I can only handle about one half of football with him and his analysis. It's too bad, because the second half of these Monday night games this year have turned out to be great.
Jason Hanson, Pierre, S.D.

Dennis Miller has one redeeming -- value all of his obnoxious pseudo-intellectual commentary has forced people to actually look up some of the references.
Robert Blanke, Montgomery, Ala.

I couldn't agree more with the zero-star grade the MNF team with Dennis Miller received. He has no right to be in the same booth with the likes of Al Michaels and Dan Fouts who actually have a clue about the game of football.
Jason Lemberg, Westfield, N.J.

Dennis Miller is OK. I personally watch football for football. Now the guy that needs to go is John Madden. He was a good coach (I use to like to watch him stomp up and down the sidelines), but he needs to only talk about football or shut up, because all too often he tries to talk about things that he is totally ignorant about.
Jay A. Bartholomew, Tucson, Ariz.

I think that Joe Theisman, Paul Maguire and Mike Patrick did the best job in the booth. They just have a good thing together, they all fit well. Not much else to say, I know it isn't much, but it's my little two cents worth. Theisman on Monday, worth a try, he can't be any worse than Miller!
Mike Wright, Lincoln, Neb.

I think Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms are the best commentators in the business now that Madden and Summerall are on the decline. I am satisfied that they are calling the Super Bowl this year instead of Michaels, Fouts, and Miller or Michaels and Boomer like last year. Gumbel and Simms deserve four stars!
Niles Haymer, Baton Rouge, La.

You rated Madden and Summerall too high. The game has passed by both. Summerall can never get a call right even when something is replayed 40 times. Madden is too busy repeating a sentence 10 times to notice anything else going on. I'd rather listen to Dick Vitale do a NFL game!
Wayne Delgado, Lancaster, Pa.

I don't know what everyone else thinks but I enjoy Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football. I think he is very funny as an announcer, and he must be a good luck charm. I mean look at this year's games. He inspired even Jumbo Elliot to make a great catch!
Scott Anderson, Lombard, Ill.

Dennis Miller has proven that comedic remarks and absurd observations do not mix well with sports. He would better serve a network as a co-host of a daytime talk show.
Stephen Rich, Merritt Island, Fla.
