Reactions: 2001 NFL Mock Draft

Users have plenty of opinions on the 2001 mock draft

CNNSI.com has conducted its first 2001 NFL Mock Draft and Michael Vick was our No. 1 pick. We asked CNNSI.com users to weigh in with their opinions on the mock draft. Judging by your responses, it seems most of you are ready to jump in the general manager's chair right now. A sample of the responses follows:

The Falcons need a quarterback that is worth protecting. They should get a quarterback with their pick because the quarterbacks they have now aren't producing. We wouldn't mind another losing season for the future of the team. Quarterback is where the talent is needed.
Andrew Holbrook, LaGrange, Ga.

The Bears need a running back first and foremost. They need to make Curtis Enis a full-time fullback and trade James Allen or make him a backup. They need a running back then a defensive back or defensive lineman.
Brandon Smith, Columbus, Ohio

Being a Bengals fan I would like to see them beef up their defense or offensive line. Kenyatta Walker would be nice, but Dan Morgan and Takeo Spikes playing together could create trouble for opposing offenses. I'd go with Dan Morgan, he just seems like a winner.
Brian Domville, Athens, Ga

As a Steeler fan who has endured the roller coaster ride of Kordell Stewart the last few years, if we can get Drew Brees at that pick, Thanksgiving, and Christmas has come early! Yes, I agree with the pick! Are you listening Bill Cower?
Carl L. Paton, Plano, Texas

Don't be surprised to see the Vikings try and move up in the draft to get defensive help. I smell a trade.
Chad Myers, Orange, Calif.

The Lions don't need another receiver. They need an offensive line. If Steve Hutchinson from Michigan is still around, the Lions would be stupid to pass him up.
Charlie Nash, New Port Richey, Fla.

Where is Freddie Mitchell in your first round? He's only the best wide receiver available. Look at his stats. Look at what he did against the best cornerback in college football last year, Jamar Fletcher. He used and abused him. Whatever team needs a wide receiver and passes on Freddie Mitchell, will make the Randy Moss mistake of this year.
Craig Gilmore, Centreville, Va.

I don't think Drew Brees will drop as far as Pittsburgh, but if he does go that low the Lions will trade up to get him. Matt Millen will probably jump in the mix headfirst and do something like this. His comments to date do everything but to come right out and say that Charlie Batch isn't the quarterback of the future for Detroit.
Doug C., Tucson, Ariz.

Tom Coughlin may be the biggest egomaniac in the league, but even he's not dumb enough to waste a second consecutive first-round pick on a receiver when the Jaguars have clear needs on the offensive line and could use a defensive play maker. If those aren't available, the Jaguars could do worse than to draft Drew Brees for development. Whether Mark Brunell is re-signed or not, the salary cap will force rebuilding sooner than later.
Drew Feyerick, Jacksonville, Fla.

I really don't think the San Diego Chargers will draft Michael Vick. They already drafted a young quarterback that came out early and was clearly inexperienced and that failed. Why draft an even younger quarterback with even less experience it makes no sense.
Eric Brennan, Johnstown, Pa.

There is no way, absolutely no way, the 49ers draft Deuce McAllister with their first-round pick. Have you watched the team? They will either draft a defensive end (Andre Carter, Justin Smith or Jamal Reynolds) or possibly one of the top offensive tackles (Leonard Davis or Kenyatta Walker). A rookie running back does them no good, especially one as injury prone as McAllister.
Jeff Julian, San Francisco

How can you say the Eagles are going to take Chris Chambers from Wisconsin? I do agree that they need wide receivers, but that scrub is not the answer. I think Reggie Wayne from Miami would be the perfect fit, unless they trade up for David Terrell or Koren Robinson.
Josh, New York

You nailed it last year with the Bears drafting Brain Urlacher. The Bears' secondary needs are just that, secondary. They need some horses up front, to free up their defensive ends to pressure the quarterback.
Michael Kehoe, Clifton, Va.

Did you guys watch the NFL or college football seasons last year? Obviously not, based on your mock draft. Koren Robinson will not fall to the Jags and the Bears would not take Jamar Fletcher at the eighth pick with Robinson, Deuce McAllister, and Michael Bennett all available. I also would have thought that the Cards would address their defensive line, even though David Terrell is going to be 2002 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Ric Andrews, Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Chargers should trade the first pick to Seattle for the seventh pick this year, Seattle's first rounder next year and Shaun Alexander. Then San Diego could draft Drew Brees and a decent defensive end.
Ron Rogers, Carbondale, Ill.
