Reaction: Michael Jordan's return

We're only a couple months from what could be the NBA's Michael Jordan era, part III. We wanted to know what you thought might happen if he does indeed return.

Keep reading for a sample of your responses.

I think the Jordan comeback will be business as usual for him. He knows the game of basketball very well. He will make all the non-believers remember 1995 when he did the same thing. He will turn the franchise around on his own, but it will always be helpful to have Rip Hamilton, Courtney Alexander and Brendan Haywood to share the load.
Howard Pryor, Union City, Ga.

Let’s get a couple things straight. Michael Jordan is the greatest thing to ever happen to basketball (the NBA). Another thing, Michael Jordan never wanted to retire after 97-98 season. Jerry Krause instead made Michael retire because Krause no longer wanted the cornerstone of his franchise to be 36 years old (instead he wanted an 18-year-old Oliver Miller clone and a seven-foot beanpole who wishes he could play with shoulder pads and a helmet). So when Michael Jordan returns he may not be the high-flying phenom he was a few years ago years ago, but he'll be just good enough to drop 50 on the Bulls to show Jerry he's still that damn good.
Andrew Purves, Toronto

If Jordan comes back people will come from miles around to see what would basically be a circus sideshow ... Michael Jordan, "The Guy Who used to be The Best Player in the World."
Chris Myers, Dallas

Everyone who says Jordan shouldn't come back is stupid. Jordan is basketball. What he brings to the game by merely stepping on the court is invaluable. The game needs excitement again. I mean, who of you aren't going to be interested when they announce his name at Madison Square Garden again? I have tremendous respect for an athlete who is always pushing the limits in this age when all you morons say he should quit. True heroes always rise to a challenge and never quit until they've died fighting.
Andrew Noble, Wenatchee, Wash.

I tell you what. I heard someone say never under estimate the heart of a champion. Michael exceeds the heart of a champion. He possesses something that no one in any sport has ever possessed. But no one has any idea what it is. I do know that Michael has more heart than all of the players in the NBA. Michael is what he wants to be, when he wants to be it. And if he wants to make a comeback at the age he is at then he can do it and be successful.
Chris Black, Dallas

If MJ returns it will be a disaster for his glorious career. I don't know how far he has taken his practice, but I really doubt that he's going to be able to keep the pace of Vince, Allen, Bryant, Ray or Tracy. I'm sure he can do really well, but he will not keep to the standards he has established for himself.
Constantino Rigas, Panama City, Panama

Go get 'em MJ! The only time I ever watch the NBA anymore is games 4-5 of the finals. If MJ came back, I guarantee you that a bunch bored fans like myself would flip on the dish and frantically search for a Wizards game to enjoy. We love to watch Jordan, because he so obviously loves the game. Everybody still just wants to be like Mike.
George White, Suffolk, Va.

I am glad that I will be able to see MJ play again, no doubt! But the Wizards are not the Bulls and the Doug Collins is not Phil Jackson. Everyone knows how good MJ is, but not even he can make the Wizards a playoff contender. MJ didn't win all those championships alone; he had help from his teammates. So my prediction: Jordan will be back this year and realize he won't win a championship with the Wizards and retire at the end of the season. Mike, nice watching you play basketball again, but if you want to win go to the Lakers!
Jon Garrepy, Worcester, Mass.

I have a very good hunch that his Airness knows very well how he might be able to play against the new generation and I think the smell of fear in the "Air" makes him all the more ready to take on that challenge.
Eric Larson, Brooklyn Park, Minn.

I think that Jordan will return, but for his sake, I hope he doesn't. There's no question that he's the best all-round player ever to grace the hardwood but the fact of the matter is the no one player has ever won a championship. People would do well to remember that there is no "I" in TEAM. Jordan never won a ring until the bulls had another superstar (Scottie). It is impossible to win a ring in today’s game with only one superstar. Every team in the league has at least two superstars: Shaq and Kobe, McGrady and Hill, Francis and The Dream. Get my drift? The Wizards need to pick up at least one serious player, especially after trading Rod Strickland and Mich Richmond (what were they thinking?).
Mark Hemming, England

Bye, bye Kobe meat, hello half-man, half-defense and everyone else who thinks they have the Answer. The alien has now arrived to continue to teach you over- and underrated players how to be the best. He goes by the name of Michael Jordan. His first victim will be Allen Houston, who signed a deal for $100 million dollars. Yes, you heard right.
Eddie, New York, N.Y.

It does not matter if he turns the Wizards around, he will bring the excitement back to the NBA. Attendance will increase in every arena, TV ratings will be back, let's not forget that he is the greatest of all time. No one knows for sure what's the final makeup of the Washington Wizards, but I am sure that if Jordan decides to come back, he has a plan and will not make a fool of himself or the Wizards.
John Coakley, Bolingbrook, Ill.
